Star gazing in Joshua Tree a few days ago, I watched a weird thing in the sky, what appeared as a train of stars, like ants in your kitchen, moving upward at an 80 degrees angle. It lasted about 2 minutes. On the next day, checking the news, I realized that it was Musk’s Starlink sending mini satellites to the sky. The web records 51-56 satellites. I even read 180… did not look like 50, unless they created multiple lights. According to wiki, Starlink …, providing satellite Internet access coverage to over 56 countries. It also aims for globalmobile phoneservice after 2023.[4]SpaceX started launching Starlink satellites in 2019. As of May 2023, Starlink consists of over 4,000 mass-producedsmall satellites inlow Earth orbit(LEO),[5] which communicate with designated groundtransceivers. In total, nearly 12,000 satellites are planned to be deployed, with a possible later extension to 42,000. Although I do not want to waste time trying to find out if the crowded sky helps the climate, I felt uneasy. “Is the Sun responsible for the heat-wave? The Sun can influence Earth’s climate, but it isn’t responsible for the warming trend we’ve seen over recent decades. The Sun is a giver of life; it helps keep the planet warm enough for us to survive. We know subtle changes in Earth’s orbit around the Sun are responsible for the comings and goings of the ice ages. One of the “smoking guns” that tells us the Sun is not causing global warming comes from looking at the amount of solar energy that hits the top of the atmosphere. Since 1978, scientists have been tracking this using sensors on satellites, which tell us that there has been no upward trend in the amount of solar energy reaching our planet.
A second smoking gun is that if the Sun were responsible for global warming, we would expect to see warming throughout all layers of the atmosphere, from the surface to the upper atmosphere (stratosphere). But what we actually see is warming at the surface and cooling in the stratosphere.
